Exploring Connecticut Collections: A New Approach to Collections Management, Access and Digital Preservation AND Object Cataloging 101

Monday, April 3, 2017, 9 - 3:30 pm

Middletown Library Service Center, 786 South Main Street, Middletown, CT

FREE (Seating is Limited, Reservations are Necessary)

Are you overwhelmed by the thought of managing your collection? Have you been told that collections management systems are expensive and difficult to use? Are you tired of complicated fee structures when all you want to do is to make your collections accessible online? Have you heard the buzz about the CLHO's new platform, Connecticut Collections (CTCo) and do you want to learn more?

If  any of these questions accurately depicts your state of mind, then this workshop is designed for you!

During the morning, participants will be introduced to the Connecticut Collections (CTCo) Project, hear from four organizations who have piloted the CTCo collections management program, learn why CTCo is different from other management platforms, and how your organization can get involved. There will be ample time to ask questions of the presenters.

In the afternoon, those who have pre-registered will be immersed in a hands-on workshop led by our team of curators and collections managers who will guide participants through the process of cataloging an object using the Connecticut Collections database.  Participants will learn how to navigate the data base fields and create object records. The afternoon session is designed to offer a hands-on introduction to working with the Connecticut Collections data base and to help volunteers who work with collections learn to catalog an object according to best practices (and serve as a refresher to those who regularly work with collections.)

Participants may register for the morning or afternoon session, or both. Registration for the afternoon session is limited. Participants may work on a computer that is provided, or bring their own laptop with WIFI capability.
