Bringing the Civil War Home
On Monday, June 6, the CLHO will hold its annual conference, "Bringing the Civil War Home—Collections, Exhibits, People, Programs, and Publications," at the Connecticut Historical Society (CHS). This daylong conference is always a highlight in our full year of programs as well as a great time to network with colleagues and to meet other professionals and volunteers who are dedicated to the history field.
The CHS is located in the west end of Hartford and offers visitors ample free parking. Join your museum and library colleagues from across the state as we take an in-depth look at the various approaches used by museums, historical societies, and libraries to mark the sesquicentennial of the American Civil War. The CHS will have available for viewing a selection of Civil War artifacts, including uniforms and accoutrements, weapons, a camp chair that traveled with its owner through the war, and even a piece of hardtack issued in 1864. Kellogg lithographs of Civil War subjects and scans of original photographs from the CHS graphics collection will supplement three-dimensional artifacts. Topping it all off will be the Treasury Guard Regiment flag that decorated Lincoln's box at Ford's Theater the evening of the assassination.
The day will conclude with the Awards of Merit presentation and reception, which acknowledges exceptional individual and organizational contributions to state and local history. Join us in congratulating the 2011 Awards of Merit recipients.
$35 CLHO members, $45 non-members. To register, please download and complete the registration form, and mail or to Sandy. Registration deadline is May 31, 2011.
